Ant. Adoremus Dominum * Quoniam ipse fecit nos Ant. Let us adore the Lord * He is our Creator
Veníte, exsultémus Dómino, iubilémus Deo, salutári nostro: præoccupémus fáciem eius in confessióne, et in psalmis iubilémus ei. Come let us praise the Lord with joy: let us joyfully sing to God our saviour. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.
Ant. Adoremus Dominum * Quoniam ipse fecit nos Ant. Let us adore the Lord * He is our Creator
For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. For in his hand are all the ends of the earth: and the heights of the mountains are his.
Ant. Quoniam ipse fecit nos Ant. He is our Creator
For the sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. (genuflect) Come let us adore and fall down: and weep before the Lord that made us: For he is the Lord our God: and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
Ant. Adoremus Dominum * Quoniam ipse fecit nos Ant. Let us adore the Lord * He is our Creator
Hódie, si vocem eius audiéritis, nolíte obduráre corda vestra, sicut in exacerbatióne secúndum diem tentatiónis in desérto: ubi tentavérunt me patres vestri, probavérunt et vidérunt ópera mea. Today if you shall hear his voice, harden not your hearts: As in the provocation, according to the day of temptation in the wilderness: where your fathers tempted me, they proved me, and saw my works.
Ant. Quoniam ipse fecit nos Ant. He is our Creator
Quadragínta annis próximus fui generatióni huic, et dixi; Semper hi errant corde, ipsi vero non cognovérunt vias meas: quibus iurávi in ira mea; Si introíbunt in réquiem meam. Forty years long was I offended with that generation, and I said: These always err in heart. And these men have not known my ways: so I swore in my wrath that they shall not enter into my rest.
Ant. Adoremus Dominum * Quoniam ipse fecit nos Ant. Let us adore the Lord * He is our Creator
V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto. V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Hymnus {ex Psalterio secundum temporum} Hymn {from the Psalter for the season of the Church year}
Primo die, quo Trinitas Hail day! whereon the One in Three
Beata mundum condidit, First formed the earth by sure decree,
Vel quo resurgens Conditor The day its Maker rose again,
Nos morte victa liberat: And vanquished death, and burst our chain.
Pulsis procul torporibus, Away with sleep and slothful ease
Surgamus omnes ocius, We raise our hearts and bend our knees,
Et nocte quaeramus Deum, And early seek the Lord of all,
Propheta sicut praecipit: Obedient to the Prophet's call.
Nostras preces ut audiat, That He may hearken to our prayer,
Suamque dextram porrigat, Stretch forth His strong right arm to spare,
Et expiatos sordibus And ev'ry past offense forgiven,
Reddat polorum sedibus: Restore us to our home in heaven.
Ut, quique sacratissimo Assembled here this holy day,
Huius diei tempore This holiest hour we raise the lay,
Horis quietis psallimus, And O that He to whom we sing,
Donis beatis muneret. May now reward our offering!
Iam nunc, paterna claritas, O Father of unclouded light!
Te postulamus affatim: Keep us this day as in thy sight,
Absint faces libidinis, In word and deed that we may be
Et omnis actus noxius. From ev'ry touch of evil free.
Ne foeda sit, vel lubrica That this our body's mortal frame
Compago nostri corporis, May know no sin, and fear no shame,
Ob cuius ignes ignibus Nor fire hereafter be the end
Avernus urat acrius. Of passions which our bosom rend.
Mundi Redemptor, quaesumus, Redeemer of the world, we pray
Tu probra nostra diluas: That thou wouldst wash our sins away,
Nobisque largus commoda And give us, of Thy boundless grace,
Vitae perennis conferas. The blessings of the heavenly place.
* Praesta, Pater piissime, Most Holy Father, hear our cry,
Patrique compar Unice, Through Jesus Christ our Lord most High
Cum Spiritu Paraclito Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee
Regnans per omne saeculum. Shall live and reign eternally.
Amen. Amen.

Ant. Beatus vir * qui in lege Domini meditatur Ant. Blessed is the man * who studieth the law of the Lord
Psalmus 1 [1] Psalm 1 [1]
1:1 Beátus vir, qui non ábiit in consílio impiórum, et in via peccatórum non stetit, * et in cáthedra pestiléntiæ non sedit: 1:1 Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, * nor sat in the chair of pestilence.
1:2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, * and on his law he shall meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, * which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season.
1:4 And his leaf shall not fall off: * and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.
1:5 Not so the wicked, not so: * but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth.
1:6 Therefore the wicked shall not rise again in judgment: * nor sinners in the council of the just.
1:7 Quóniam novit Dóminus viam iustórum: * et iter impiórum períbit. 1:7 For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: * and the way of the wicked shall perish.
V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto. V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sæcula sæculórum. Amen. R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Ant. Beatus vir * qui in lege Domini meditatur Ant. Blessed is the man * who studieth the law of the Lord
Ant. Servite Domino * in timore, et exsultate ei cum tremore Ant. Serve ye the Lord * with fear: and rejoice unto him with trembling
Psalmus 2 [2] Psalm 2 [2]
2:1 Why have the Gentiles raged, * and the people devised vain things?
2:2 The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, * against the Lord and against his Christ.
2:3 Dirumpámus víncula eórum: * et proiiciámus a nobis iugum ipsórum. 2:3 Let us break their bonds asunder: * and let us cast away their yoke from us.
2:4 Qui hábitat in cælis, irridébit eos: * et Dóminus subsannábit eos. 2:4 He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: * and the Lord shall deride them.
2:5 Then shall he speak to them in his anger, * and trouble them in his rage.
2:6 But I am appointed king by him over Sion his holy mountain, * preaching his commandment.
2:7 Dóminus dixit ad me: * Fílius meus es tu, ego hódie génui te. 2:7 The Lord hath said to me: * Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.
2:8 Póstula a me, et dabo tibi Gentes hereditátem tuam, * et possessiónem tuam términos terræ. 2:8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, * and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.
2:9 Reges eos in virga férrea, * et tamquam vas fíguli confrínges eos. 2:9 Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron, * and shalt break them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
2:10 And now, O ye kings, understand: * receive instruction, you that judge the earth.
2:11 Servíte Dómino in timóre: * et exsultáte ei cum tremóre. 2:11 Serve ye the Lord with fear: * and rejoice unto him with trembling.
2:12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, * and you perish from the just way.
When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, * blessed are all they that trust in him.

Psalmus 3 [3] Psalm 3 [3]
3:1 Dómine quid multiplicáti sunt qui tríbulant me? * multi insúrgunt advérsum me. 3:1 Why, O Lord, are they multiplied that afflict me? * many are they who rise up against me.
3:2 Many say to my soul: * There is no salvation for him in his God.
3:3 But thou, O Lord art my protector, * my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
3:4 I have cried to the Lord with my voice: * and he hath heard me from his holy hill.
3:5 Ego dormívi, et soporátus sum: * et exsurréxi, quia Dóminus suscépit me. 3:5 I have slept and taken my rest: * and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.
3:6 Non timébo míllia pópuli circumdántis me: * exsúrge, Dómine, salvum me fac, Deus meus. 3:6 I will not fear thousands of the people, surrounding me: * arise, O Lord; save me, O my God.
3:7 Quóniam tu percussísti omnes adversántes mihi sine causa: * dentes peccatórum contrivísti. 3:7 For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause: * thou hast broken the teeth of sinners.
3:8 Salvation is of the Lord: * and thy blessing is upon thy people.

8:1 O Lord our Lord, * how admirable is thy name in the whole earth!
8:2 Quóniam eleváta est magnificéntia tua, * super cælos. 8:2 For thy magnificence is elevated * above the heavens.
8:3 Out of the mouth of infants and of sucklings thou hast perfected praise, because of thy enemies, * that thou mayst destroy the enemy and the avenger.
8:4 Quóniam vidébo cælos tuos, ópera digitórum tuórum: * lunam et stellas, quæ tu fundásti. 8:4 For I will behold thy heavens, the works of thy fingers: * the moon and the stars which thou hast founded.
8:5 Quid est homo quod memor es eius? * aut fílius hóminis, quóniam vísitas eum? 8:5 What is man that thou art mindful of him? * or the son of man that thou visitest him?
8:6 Thou hast made him a little less than the angels, thou hast crowned him with glory and honour: * and hast set him over the works of thy hands.
8:7 Thou hast subjected all things under his feet, * all sheep and oxen: moreover the beasts also of the fields.
8:8 The birds of the air, and the fishes of the sea, * that pass through the paths of the sea.

9:2 Lætábor et exsultábo in te: * psallam nómini tuo, Altíssime. 9:2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: * I will sing to thy name, O thou most high.

9:4 For thou hast maintained my judgment and my cause: * thou hast sat on the throne, who judgest justice.
9:5 Increpásti Gentes, et périit ímpius: * nomen eórum delésti in ætérnum, et in sæculum sæculi. 9:5 Thou hast rebuked the Gentiles, and the wicked one hath perished: * thou hast blotted out their name for ever and ever.
9:6 Inimíci defecérunt frámeæ in finem: * et civitátes eórum destruxísti. 9:6 The swords of the enemy have failed unto the end: * and their cities thou hast destroyed.
9:7 Their memory hath perished with a noise. * But the Lord remaineth for ever.
9:8 Parávit in iudício thronum suum: * et ipse iudicábit orbem terræ in æquitáte, iudicábit pópulos in iustítia. 9:8 He hath prepared his throne in judgment: * And he shall judge the world in equity, he shall judge the people in justice.
9:9 Et factus est Dóminus refúgium páuperi: * adiútor in opportunitátibus, in tribulatióne. 9:9 And the Lord is become a refuge for the poor: * a helper in due time in tribulation.
9:10 And let them trust in thee who know thy name: * for thou hast not forsaken them that seek thee, O Lord.

Psalmus 9(12-21) [6] Psalm 9(12-21) [6]
9:12 Psállite Dómino, qui hábitat in Sion: * annuntiáte inter Gentes stúdia eius: 9:12 Sing ye to the Lord, who dwelleth in Sion: * declare his ways among the Gentiles.
9:13 For requiring their blood he hath remembered them: * he hath not forgotten the cry of the poor.
9:14 Miserére mei, Dómine: * vide humilitátem meam de inimícis meis. 9:14 Have mercy on me, O Lord: * see my humiliation which I suffer from my enemies.
9:15 Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death, * that I may declare all thy praises in the gates of the daughter of Sion.
9:16 Exsultábo in salutári tuo: * infíxæ sunt Gentes in intéritu, quem fecérunt. 9:16 I will rejoice in thy salvation: * the Gentiles have stuck fast in the destruction which they have prepared.
9:17 In láqueo isto, quem abscondérunt, * comprehénsus est pes eórum. 9:17 Their foot hath been taken * in the very snare which they hid.
9:18 Cognoscétur Dóminus iudícia fáciens: * in opéribus mánuum suárum comprehénsus est peccátor. 9:18 The Lord shall be known when he executeth judgments: * the sinner hath been caught in the works of his own hands.
9:19 Convertántur peccatóres in inférnum, * omnes Gentes quæ obliviscúntur Deum. 9:19 The wicked shall be turned into hell, * all the nations that forget God.
9:20 Quóniam non in finem oblívio erit páuperis: * patiéntia páuperum non períbit in finem. 9:20 For the poor man shall not be forgotten to the end: * the patience of the poor shall not perish for ever.
9:21 Exsúrge, Dómine, non confortétur homo: * iudicéntur Gentes in conspéctu tuo. 9:21 Arise, O Lord, let not man be strengthened: * let the Gentiles be judged in thy sight.
9:21 Appoint, O Lord, a lawgiver over them: * that the Gentiles may know themselves to be but men.

Ant. Ut quid Domine * recessisti longe Ant. Why O Lord * hast thou retired afar off
Psalmus 9(22-32) [7] Psalm 9(22-32) [7]
9:22 Ut quid, Dómine, recessísti longe, * déspicis in opportunitátibus, in tribulatióne? 9:22 Why, O Lord, hast thou retired afar off? * why dost thou slight us in our wants, in the time of trouble?
9:23 Dum supérbit ímpius, incénditur pauper: * comprehendúntur in consíliis quibus cógitant. 9:23 Whilst the wicked man is proud, the poor is set on fire: * they are caught in the counsels which they devise.
9:24 Quóniam laudátur peccátor in desidériis ánimæ suæ: * et iníquus benedícitur. 9:24 For the sinner is praised in the desires of his soul: * and the unjust man is blessed.
9:25 Exacerbávit Dóminum peccátor, * secúndum multitúdinem iræ suæ non quæret. 9:25 The sinner hath provoked the Lord, * according to the multitude of his wrath he will not seek him.
9:26 God is not before his eyes: * his ways are filthy at all times.
9:27 Auferúntur iudícia tua a fácie eius: * ómnium inimicórum suórum dominábitur. 9:27 Thy judgments are removed from his sight: * he shall rule over all his enemies.
9:28 Dixit enim in corde suo: * Non movébor a generatióne in generatiónem sine malo. 9:28 For he hath said in his heart: * I shall not be moved from generation to generation, and shall be without evil.
9:29 His mouth is full of cursing, and of bitterness, and of deceit: * under his tongue are labour and sorrow.
9:30 He sitteth in ambush with the rich, in private places, * that he may kill the innocent.
9:31 Óculi eius in páuperem respíciunt: * insidiátur in abscóndito, quasi leo in spelúnca sua. 9:31 His eyes are upon the poor man: * he lieth in wait, in secret, like a lion in his den.
9:32 Insidiátur ut rápiat páuperem: * rápere páuperem, dum áttrahit eum. 9:32 He lieth in ambush, that he may catch the poor man: * so catch the poor, whilst he draweth him to him.
9:32 In láqueo suo humiliábit eum: * inclinábit se, et cadet, cum dominátus fúerit páuperum. 9:32 In his net he will bring him down, * he will crouch and fall, when he shall have power over the poor.
9:32 Dixit enim in corde suo: Oblítus est Deus, * avértit fáciem suam ne vídeat in finem. 9:32 For he hath said in his heart: God hath forgotten, * he hath turned away his face, not to see to the end.

Psalmus 9(33-39) [8] Psalm 9(33-39) [8]
9:33 Exsúrge, Dómine Deus, exaltétur manus tua: * ne obliviscáris páuperum. 9:33 Rise, O Lord God, let thy hand be exalted: * forget not the poor.
9:34 Propter quid irritávit ímpius Deum? * dixit enim in corde suo: Non requíret. 9:34 Wherefore hath the wicked provoked God? * for he hath said in his heart: He will not require it.
9:35 Thou seest it, for thou considerest labour and sorrow: * that thou mayst deliver them into thy hands.
9:36 Tibi derelíctus est pauper: * órphano tu eris adiútor. 9:36 To thee is the poor man left: * thou wilt be a helper to the orphan.
9:37 Break thou the arm of the sinner and of the malignant: * his sin shall be sought, and shall not be found.
9:38 Dóminus regnábit in ætérnum, et in sæculum sæculi: * períbitis, Gentes, de terra illíus. 9:38 The Lord shall reign to eternity, yea, for ever and ever: * ye Gentiles shall perish from his land.
9:39 Desidérium páuperum exaudívit Dóminus: * præparatiónem cordis eórum audívit auris tua. 9:39 The Lord hath heard the desire of the poor: * thy ear hath heard the preparation of their heart.
V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Ant. Exsurge * Domine Deus, exaltetur manus tua
Ant. Iustus Dominus * et iustitiam dilexit Ant. The Lord is just * and He hath loved justice
Psalmus 10 [9] Psalm 10 [9]

Hos 1:4-7 Hos 1:4-7
4 And the Lord said to him: Call his name Jezrahel: for yet a little while, and I will visit the blood of Jezrahel upon the house of Jehu, and I will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
5 Et in illa die conteram arcum Israël in valle Iezrahel. 5 And in that day I will break in pieces the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezrahel.
6 And she conceived again, and bore a daughter, and he said to him: Call her name, Without mercy: for I will not add any more to have mercy on the house of Israel, but I will utterly forget them.
7 And I will have mercy on the house of Juda, and I will save them by the Lord their God: and Iwill not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, nor by horses, nor by horsemen.
Hos 1:8-11 Hos 1:8-11
8 And she weaned her that was called Without mercy. And she conceived, and bore a son.
9 And he said: Call his name, Not my people: for you are not my people, and I will not be yours.
10 And the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, that is without measure, and shall not be numbered. And it shall be in the place where it shall be said to them: You are not my people: it shall be said to them: Ye are the sons of the living God.
11 And the children of Juda, and the children of Israel shall be gathered together: and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall come up out of the land: for great is the day of Jezrahel.

Lectio sancti Evangelii secundum Matthaeum. From the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Matt 13:31-32 Matt 13:31-32
In illo tempore: Dixit Iesus turbis parabolam hanc: Simile est regnum caelorum grano sinapis, quod accipiens homo seminavit in agro suo. Et reliqua. In that time Jesus said to to the people a parable: The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field. And so on.
Homilia S. Hieronymi Presbyteri. Homily by St Jerome, Priest at Bethlehem.
Lib. 2. Comm. in cap. 13. Matth. Book ii. Comment, on Matth. xiii.
The kingdom of heaven is the proclamation of the Gospel, and that knowledge of the Scriptures, which leadeth unto life, and whereof it is said to the Jews, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. Matth. xxi. 43- Therefore is this kingdom like to a grain of mustard - seed, which a man took and sowed in his field. By the man that sowed it in his field, many understand to be meant the Saviour, because He is the Sower That soweth in the souls of believers; others understand every man that soweth good seed in his own field, that is, in himself and in his own heart.
V. Tu autem Dómine miserére nobis. V. And thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us
R. Deo grátias. R. Thanks be to God.

Hymnus Hymn
Aeterne rerum Conditor, Maker of all, eternal King,
Noctem diemque qui régis, Who day and night about dost bring:
Et témporum das témpora, Who weary mortals to relieve,
Ut alleves fastidium. Dost in their times the seasons give:
Nocturna lux viantibus Now the shrill cock proclaims the day,
A nocte noctem segregans, And calls the sun’s awak’ning ray
Præco diéi iam sonat, The wand’ring pilgrim’s guiding light,
Iubarque solis evocat. That marks the watches night by night.
Hoc excitátus Lucifer Roused at the note, the morning star
Solvit polum caligine: Heaven’s dusky veil uplifts afar:
Hoc omnis erronum cohors Night’s vagrant bands no longer roam,
Viam nocendi déserit. But from their dark ways hie them home.
Hoc nauta vires cólligit, The encouraged sailor’s fears are o’er,
Pontique mitescunt freta: The foaming billows rage no more:
Hoc, ipsa petra Ecclésiæ, Lo! e’en the very Church’s rock
Canente, culpam diluit. Melts at the crowing of the cock.
Surgamus ergo strénue: O let us then like men arise;
Gallus iacentes excitat, The cock rebukes our slumbering eyes,
Et somnolentos íncrepat, Bestirs who still in sleep would lie,
Gallus negantes arguit. And shames who would their Lord deny.
Gallo canente, spes redit, New hope his clarion-note awakes,
Ægris salus refunditur, Sickness the feeble frame forsakes,
Mucro latronis conditur, The robber sheathes his lawless sword,
Lapsis fides revértitur. Faith to the fallen is restored.
Iesu, labantes réspice, Look on us, Jesu, when we fall,
Et nos videndo corrige: And with thy look our souls recall:
Si respicis, labes cadunt, If thou but look, our sins are gone,
Fletuque culpa solvitur. And with due tears our pardon won.
Tu, lux, refulge sénsibus, Shed through our hearts thy piercing ray,
Mentisque somnum discute: Our souls’ dull slumber drive away:
Te nostra vox primum sonet, Thy name be first on every tongue,
Et vota solvamus tibi. To thee our earliest praises sung.
Deo Patri sit glória, All laud to God the Father be,
Eiúsque soli Fílio, All praise, Eternal Son, to thee,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito, All glory, as is ever meet,
Nunc et per omne sæculum. To God the holy Paraclete
Amen. Amen.

Hymnus Hymnus
Iam lucis orto sidere, Now in the sun’s new dawning ray,
Deum precemur supplices, Lowly of heart, our God we pray
Ut in diurnis actibus That he from harm may keep us free
Nos servet a nocentibus. In all the deeds this day shall see.
Linguam refrenans temperet, May fear of him our tongues restrain,
Ne litis horror insonet: Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:
Visum fovendo contegat, His favouring care our guardian be,
Ne vanitates hauriat. Lest our eyes feed on vanity.
Sint pura cordis intima, May every heart be pure from sin
Absistat et vecordia; And folly find no place therein:
Carnis terat superbiam Scant need of food, excess denied,
Potus cibique parcitas. Wear down in us the body’s pride.
Ut, cum dies abscesserit, That when the light of day is gone,
Noctemque sors reduxerit, And night in course shall follow on.
Mundi per abstinentiam We, free from cares the world affords,
Ipsi canamus gloriam. May chant the praise that is our Lord’s.
* Deo Patri sit gloria, * All laud to God the Father be,
Eiusque soli Filio, All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:
Cum Spiritu Paraclito, All glory, as is ever meet,
Nunc et per omne saeculum. To God the holy Paraclete.
Amen. Amen.

Ant. Alleluia, * confitemini Domino, quoniam in saeculum misericordia eius, alleluia, alleluia. Ant. Alleluia, * Give glory to the Lord, for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalmus 117 [1] Psalm 117 [1]
117:1 Confitémini Dómino quóniam bonus: * quóniam in sæculum misericórdia eius. 117:1 Give praise to the Lord, for he is good: * for his mercy endureth for ever.
117:2 Dicat nunc Israël quóniam bonus: * quóniam in sæculum misericórdia eius. 117:2 Let Israel now say, that he is good: * that his mercy endureth for ever.
117:3 Dicat nunc domus Aaron: * quóniam in sæculum misericórdia eius. 117:3 Let the house of Aaron now say, * that his mercy endureth for ever.
117:4 Let them that fear the Lord now say, * that his mercy endureth for ever.
117:5 De tribulatióne invocávi Dóminum: * et exaudívit me in latitúdine Dóminus. 117:5 In my trouble I called upon the Lord: * and the Lord heard me, and enlarged me.
117:6 Dóminus mihi adiútor: * non timébo quid fáciat mihi homo. 117:6 The Lord is my helper: * I will not fear what man can do unto me.
117:7 Dóminus mihi adiútor: * et ego despíciam inimícos meos. 117:7 The Lord is my helper: * and I will look over my enemies.
117:8 Bonum est confídere in Dómino, * quam confídere in hómine: 117:8 It is good to confide in the Lord, * rather than to have confidence in man.
117:9 It is good to trust in the Lord, * rather than to trust in princes.
117:10 Omnes gentes circuiérunt me: * et in nómine Dómini quia ultus sum in eos. 117:10 All nations compassed me about; * and in the name of the Lord I have been revenged on them.
117:11 Circumdántes circumdedérunt me: * et in nómine Dómini quia ultus sum in eos. 117:11 Surrounding me they compassed me about: * and in the name of the Lord I have been revenged on them.
117:12 Circumdedérunt me sicut apes, et exarsérunt sicut ignis in spinis: * et in nómine Dómini quia ultus sum in eos. 117:12 They surrounded me like bees, and they burned like fire among thorns: * and in the name of the Lord I was revenged on them.
117:13 Impúlsus evérsus sum ut cáderem: * et Dóminus suscépit me. 117:13 Being pushed I was overturned that I might fall: * but the Lord supported me.
117:14 The Lord is my strength and my praise: * and he is become my salvation.
117:15 Vox exsultatiónis, et salútis * in tabernáculis iustórum. 117:15 The voice of rejoicing and of salvation * is in the tabernacles of the just.
117:16 Déxtera Dómini fecit virtútem: déxtera Dómini exaltávit me, * déxtera Dómini fecit virtútem. 117:16 The right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength: the right hand of the Lord hath exalted me: * the right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength.
117:17 I shall not die, but live: * and shall declare the works of the Lord.
117:18 Castígans castigávit me Dóminus: * et morti non trádidit me. 117:18 The Lord chastising hath chastised me: * but he hath not delivered me over to death.
117:19 Aperíte mihi portas iustítiæ, ingréssus in eas confitébor Dómino: * hæc porta Dómini, iusti intrábunt in eam. 117:19 Open ye to me the gates of justice: I will go in to them, and give praise to the Lord. * This is the gate of the Lord, the just shall enter into it.
117:20 Confitébor tibi quóniam exaudísti me: * et factus es mihi in salútem. 117:20 I will give glory to thee because thou hast heard me: * and art become my salvation.
117:21 Lápidem, quem reprobavérunt ædificántes: * hic factus est in caput ánguli. 117:21 The stone which the builders rejected; * the same is become the head of the corner.
117:22 This is the Lord’s doing: * and it is wonderful in our eyes.
117:23 Hæc est dies, quam fecit Dóminus: * exsultémus, et lætémur in ea. 117:23 This is the day which the Lord hath made: * let us be glad and rejoice therein.
117:24 O Dómine, salvum me fac, o Dómine, bene prosperáre: * benedíctus qui venit in nómine Dómini. 117:24 O Lord, save me: O Lord, give good success: * Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
117:25 We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord: * The Lord is God, and he hath shone upon us.
117:26 Constitúite diem solémnem in condénsis, * usque ad cornu altáris. 117:26 Appoint a solemn day, with shady boughs, * even to the horn of the altar.

118:3 Blessed are they that search his testimonies: * that seek him with their whole heart.
118:4 For they that work iniquity, * have not walked in his ways.
118:5 Tu mandásti * mandáta tua custodíri nimis. 118:5 Thou hast commanded * thy commandments to be kept most diligently.
118:6 Útinam dirigántur viæ meæ, * ad custodiéndas iustificatiónes tuas! 118:6 O! that my ways may be directed * to keep thy justifications.
118:7 Then shall I not be confounded, * when I shall look into all thy commandments.
118:8 Confitébor tibi in directióne cordis: * in eo quod dídici iudícia iustítiæ tuæ. 118:8 I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, * when I shall have learned the judgments of thy justice.

118:11 In toto corde meo exquisívi te: * ne repéllas me a mandátis tuis. 118:11 With my whole heart have I sought after thee: * let me not stray from thy commandments.
118:12 Thy words have I hidden in my heart, * that I may not sin against thee.
118:13 Benedíctus es, Dómine: * doce me iustificatiónes tuas. 118:13 Blessed art thou, O Lord: * teach me thy justifications.
118:14 In lábiis meis, * pronuntiávi ómnia iudícia oris tui. 118:14 With my lips * I have pronounced all the judgments of thy mouth.
118:15 In via testimoniórum tuórum delectátus sum, * sicut in ómnibus divítiis. 118:15 I have been delighted in the way of thy testimonies, * as in all riches.
118:16 In mandátis tuis exercébor: * et considerábo vias tuas. 118:16 I will meditate on thy commandments: * and I will consider thy ways.

118:33 (He) Legem pone mihi, Dómine, viam iustificatiónum tuárum: * et exquíram eam semper. 118:33 (He) Set before me for a law the way of thy justifications, O Lord: * and I will always seek after it.
118:34 Da mihi intelléctum, et scrutábor legem tuam: * et custódiam illam in toto corde meo. 118:34 Give me understanding, and I will search thy law; * and I will keep it with my whole heart.
118:35 Deduc me in sémitam mandatórum tuórum: * quia ipsam vólui. 118:35 Lead me into the path of thy commandments; * for this same I have desired.
118:36 Incline my heart into thy testimonies * and not to covetousness.

118:49 (Zai) Memor esto verbi tui servo tuo, * in quo mihi spem dedísti. 118:49 (Zai) Be thou mindful of thy word to thy servant, * in which thou hast given me hope.
118:50 Hæc me consoláta est in humilitáte mea: * quia elóquium tuum vivificávit me. 118:50 This hath comforted me in my humiliation: * because thy word hath enlivened me.
118:51 Supérbi iníque agébant usquequáque: * a lege autem tua non declinávi. 118:51 The proud did iniquitously altogether: * but I declined not from thy law.
118:52 Memor fui iudiciórum tuórum a sæculo, Dómine: * et consolátus sum. 118:52 I remembered, O Lord, thy judgments of old: * and I was comforted.
118:53 Deféctio ténuit me, * pro peccatóribus derelinquéntibus legem tuam. 118:53 A fainting hath taken hold of me, * because of the wicked that forsake thy law.
118:54 Cantábiles mihi erant iustificatiónes tuæ, * in loco peregrinatiónis meæ. 118:54 Thy justifications were the subject of my song, * in the place of my pilgrimage.
118:55 Memor fui nocte nóminis tui, Dómine: * et custodívi legem tuam. 118:55 In the night I have remembered thy name, O Lord: * and have kept thy law.
118:56 Hæc facta est mihi: * quia iustificatiónes tuas exquisívi. 118:56 This happened to me: * because I sought after thy justifications.
118:57 (Heth) Pórtio mea, Dómine, * dixi custodíre legem tuam. 118:57 (Heth) O Lord, my portion, * I have said, I would keep thy law.

118:59 Cogitávi vias meas: * et convérti pedes meos in testimónia tua. 118:59 I have thought on my ways: * and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.
118:60 I am ready, and am not troubled: * that I may keep thy commandments.
118:61 The cords of the wicked have encompassed me: * but I have not forgotten thy law.

118:65 (Teth) Bonitátem fecísti cum servo tuo, Dómine, * secúndum verbum tuum. 118:65 (Teth) Thou hast done well with thy servant, O Lord, * according to thy word.
118:66 Bonitátem, et disciplínam, et sciéntiam doce me: * quia mandátis tuis crédidi. 118:66 Teach me goodness and discipline and knowledge; * for I have believed thy commandments.
118:67 Priúsquam humiliárer ego delíqui: * proptérea elóquium tuum custodívi. 118:67 Before I was humbled I offended; * therefore have I kept thy word.
118:68 Bonus es tu: * et in bonitáte tua doce me iustificatiónes tuas. 118:68 Thou art good; * and in thy goodness teach me thy justifications.
118:69 Multiplicáta est super me iníquitas superbórum: * ego autem in toto corde meo scrutábor mandáta tua. 118:69 The iniquity of the proud hath been multiplied over me: * but I will seek thy commandments with my whole heart.
118:70 Coagulátum est sicut lac cor eórum: * ego vero legem tuam meditátus sum. 118:70 Their heart is curdled like milk: * but I have meditated on thy law.
118:71 Bonum mihi quia humiliásti me: * ut discam iustificatiónes tuas. 118:71 It is good for me that thou hast humbled me, * that I may learn thy justifications.
118:72 Bonum mihi lex oris tui, * super míllia auri et argénti. 118:72 The law of thy mouth is good to me, * above thousands of gold and silver.
118:73 (Ioth) Manus tuæ fecérunt me, et plasmavérunt me: * da mihi intelléctum, et discam mandáta tua. 118:73 (Jod) Thy hands have made me and formed me: * give me understanding, and I will learn thy commandments.
118:74 Qui timent te vidébunt me, et lætabúntur: * quia in verba tua supersperávi. 118:74 They that fear thee shall see me, and shall be glad: * because I have greatly hoped in thy words.
118:75 Cognóvi, Dómine, quia æquitas iudícia tua: * et in veritáte tua humiliásti me. 118:75 I know, O Lord, that thy judgments are equity: * and in thy truth thou hast humbled me.
118:76 Fiat misericórdia tua ut consolétur me, * secúndum elóquium tuum servo tuo. 118:76 O! let thy mercy be for my comfort, * according to thy word unto thy servant.
118:77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, and I shall live: * for thy law is my meditation.
118:78 Confundántur supérbi, quia iniúste iniquitátem fecérunt in me: * ego autem exercébor in mandátis tuis. 118:78 Let the proud be ashamed, because they have done unjustly towards me: * but I will be employed in thy commandments.
118:79 Let them that fear thee turn to me: * and they that know thy testimonies.

118:100 Super senes intelléxi: * quia mandáta tua quæsívi. 118:100 I have had understanding above ancients: * because I have sought thy commandments.
118:101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way: * that I may keep thy words.
118:102 A iudíciis tuis non declinávi: * quia tu legem posuísti mihi. 118:102 I have not declined from thy judgments, * because thou hast set me a law.
118:103 Quam dúlcia fáucibus meis elóquia tua, * super mel ori meo! 118:103 How sweet are thy words to my palate! * more than honey to my mouth.

118:118 Sprevísti omnes discedéntes a iudíciis tuis: * quia iniústa cogitátio eórum. 118:118 Thou hast despised all them that fall off from thy judgments; * for their thought is unjust.
118:119 Prævaricántes reputávi omnes peccatóres terræ: * ídeo diléxi testimónia tua. 118:119 I have accounted all the sinners of the earth prevaricators: * therefore have I loved thy testimonies.

Hymnus Hymn
Lucis Creator optime, O blest Creator of the light,
Lucem diérum proferens, Who mak’st the day with radiance bright,
Primordiis lucis novæ, And o’er the forming world didst call
Mundi parans oríginem: The light from chaos first of all;
Qui mane iunctum vesperi Whose wisdom joined in meet array
Diem vocári præcipis: The morn and eve, and named them day:
Illabitur tetrum chaos, Night comes with all its darkling fears;
Audi preces cum flétibus. Regard thy people’s prayers and tears.
Ne mens graváta crimine, Lest, sunk in sin, and whelmed with strife,
Vitæ sit exsul múnere, They lose the gift of endless life;
Dum nil perénne cogitat, While thinking but the thoughts of time,
Seseque culpis illigat. They weave new chains of woe and crime.
Cæléste pulset óstium: But grant them grace that they may strain
Vitale tollat præmium: The heavenly gate and prize to gain:
Vitemus omne nóxium: Each harmful lure aside to cast,
Purgemus omne pessimum. And purge away each error past.
Præsta, Páter piíssime, O Father, that we ask be done,
Patríque compar Únice, Through Jesus Christ, thine only Son;
Cum Spíritu Paráclito Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee,
Regnans per omne sæculum. Doth live and reign eternally.
Amen. Amen.

Hymnus Hymn
Te lucis ante terminum, Before the ending of the day,
Rerum Creator, poscimus, Creator of the world, we pray
Ut pro tua clementia That with thy wonted favor thou
Sis praesul et custodia. Wouldst be our guard and keeper now.
Procul recedant somnia, From all ill dreams defend our eyes,
Et noctium phantasmata; From nightly fears and fantasies;
Hostemque nostrum comprime, Tread under foot our ghostly foe,
Ne polluantur corpora. That no pollution we may know.
* Praesta, Pater piissime, * O Father, that we ask be done,
Patrique compar Unice, Through Jesus Christ, thine only Son;
Cum Spiritu Paraclito Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee,
Regnans per omne saeculum. Doth live and reign eternally.
Amen. Amen.
