105:10 Et incrépuit Mare Rubrum, et exsiccátum est, * et dedúxit eos in abýssis sicut in desérto. 105:10 And he rebuked the Red Sea, and it was dried up: * and he led them through the depths, as in a wilderness.
105:11 Et salvávit eos de manu odiéntium: * et redémit eos de manu inimíci. 105:11 And he saved them from the hand of them that hated them: * and he redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
105:12 Et opéruit aqua tribulántes eos: * unus ex eis non remánsit. 105:12 And the water covered them that afflicted them: * there was not one of them left.
105:13 Et credidérunt verbis eius: * et laudavérunt laudem eius. 105:13 And they believed his words: * and they sang his praises.
105:14 Cito fecérunt, oblíti sunt óperum eius: * et non sustinuérunt consílium eius. 105:14 They had quickly done, they forgot his works: * and they waited not for his counsels.

105:16 Et irritavérunt Moysen in castris: * Aaron, sanctum Dómini. 105:16 And they provoked Moses in the camp, * Aaron the holy one of the Lord.
105:17 Apérta est terra, et deglutívit Dathan: * et opéruit super congregatiónem Abíron. 105:17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan: * and covered the congregation of Abiron.
105:18 Et exársit ignis in synagóga eorum * flamma combússit peccatóres. 105:18 And a fire was kindled in their congregation: * the flame burned the wicked.
105:19 Et fecerunt vitulum in Horeb * et adoraverunt sculptile. 105:19 They made also a calf in Horeb: * and they adored the graven thing.
105:20 Et mutavérunt glóriam suam * in similitúdinem vítuli comedéntis foenum. 105:20 And they changed their glory * into the likeness of a calf that eateth grass.
105:21 Oblíti sunt Deum, qui salvávit eos, * qui fecit magnália in Ægýpto, mirabília in terra Cham: terribília in Mari Rubro. 105:21 They forgot God, who saved them, * who had done great things in Egypt, wondrous works in the land of Cham: terrible things in the Red Sea.
105:22 Et dixit ut dispérderet eos: * si non Móyses, eléctus eius, stetísset in confractióne in conspéctu eius: 105:22 And he said that he would destroy them: * had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach:
105:23 Ut avérteret iram eius ne dispérderet eos: * et pro níhilo habuérunt terram desiderábilem: 105:23 To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them; * and they set at nought the desirable land.
105:24 Non credidérunt verbo eius, et murmuravérunt in tabernáculis suis: * non exaudiérunt vocem Dómini. 105:24 They believed not his word, and they murmured in their tents: * they hearkened not to the voice of the Lord.
105:25 Et elevávit manum suam super eos: * ut prostérneret eos in desérto: 105:25 And he lifted up his hand over them: * to overthrow them in the desert;
105:26 Et ut deiíceret semen eórum in natiónibus: * et dispérgeret eos in regiónibus. 105:26 And to cast down their seed among the nations, * and to scatter them in the countries.
105:27 Et initiáti sunt Beélphegor: * et comedérunt sacrifícia mortuórum. 105:27 They also were initiated to Beelphegor: * and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
105:28 Et irritavérunt eum in adinventiónibus suis: * et multiplicáta est in eis ruína. 105:28 And they provoked him with their inventions: * and destruction was multiplied among them.
105:28 Et stetit Phínees, et placávit: * et cessávit quassátio. 105:28 Then Phinees stood up, and pacified him: * and the slaughter ceased.
105:28 Et reputátum est ei in iustítiam: * in generatiónem et generatiónem usque in sempitérnum. 105:28 And it was reputed to him unto justice, * to generation and generation for evermore.

105:29 Et irritavérunt eum ad aquas contradictiónis: * et vexátus est Móyses propter eos: quia exacerbavérunt spíritum eius. 105:29 They provoked him also at the waters of contradiction: * and Moses was afflicted for their sakes: because they exasperated his spirit.
105:30 Et distínxit in lábiis suis: * non disperdidérunt Gentes, quas dixit Dóminus illis. 105:30 And he distinguished with his lips; * they did not destroy the nations of which the Lord spoke unto them.
105:31 Et commísti sunt inter Gentes, et didicérunt ópera eórum: et serviérunt sculptílibus eórum: * et factum est illis in scándalum. 105:31 And they were mingled among the heathens, and learned their works: and served their idols, * and it became a stumblingblock to them.
105:32 Et immolavérunt fílios suos, * et filias suas dæmóniis. 105:32 And they sacrificed their sons, * and their daughters to devils.
105:33 Et effudérunt sánguinem innocéntem: * sánguinem filiórum suórum et filiárum suárum, quas sacrificavérunt sculptílibus Chánaan. 105:33 And they shed innocent blood: * the blood of their sons and of their daughters which they sacrificed to the idols of Chanaan.
105:34 Et infécta est terra in sanguínibus, et contamináta est in opéribus eórum: * et fornicáti sunt in adinventiónibus suis. 105:34 And the land was polluted with blood, and was defiled with their works: * and they went aside after their own inventions.
105:35 Et irátus est furóre Dóminus in pópulum suum: * et abominátus est hereditátem suam. 105:35 And the Lord was exceedingly angry with his people: * and he abhorred his inheritance.
105:36 Et trádidit eos in manus Géntium: * et domináti sunt eórum qui odérunt eos. 105:36 And he delivered them into the hands of the nations: * and they that hated them had dominion over them.
105:37 Et tribulavérunt eos inimíci eórum, et humiliáti sunt sub mánibus eórum: * sæpe liberávit eos. 105:37 And their enemies afflicted them: and they were humbled under their hands: * many times did he deliver them.
105:38 Ipsi autem exacerbavérunt eum in consílio suo: * et humiliáti sunt in iniquitátibus suis. 105:38 But they provoked him with their counsel: * and they were brought low by their iniquities.
105:39 Et vidit, cum tribularéntur: * et audívit oratiónem eórum. 105:39 And he saw when they were in tribulation: * and he heard their prayer.
105:40 Et memor fuit testaménti sui: * et poenítuit eum secúndum multitúdinem misericórdiæ suæ. 105:40 And he was mindful of his covenant: * and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

11 Alii vero, ad proximas coëuntes speluncas, et latenter sabbati diem celebrantes, cum indicati essent Philippo, flammis succensi sunt, eo quod verebantur propter religionem et observantiam manu sibimet auxilium ferre. 11 And others that had met together in caves that were near, and were keeping the sabbath day privately, being discovered by Philip, were burnt with fire, because they made a conscience to help themselves with their hands, by reason of the religious observance of the day.
12 Obsecro autem eos qui hunc librum lecturi sunt, ne abhorrescant propter adversos casus: sed reputent ea quae acciderunt, non ad interitum, sed ad correptionem esse generis nostri. 12 Now I beseech those that shall read this book, that they be not shocked at these calamities, but that they consider the things that happened, not as being for the destruction, but for the correction of our nation.

Accessi, inquit, ad Prophetissam, et in utero accepit, et peperit filium. Quod Maria Prophetissa fuerit, ad quam proxime accessit Isaias per praenotionem spiritus, nemo contradixerit qui sit memor verborum Mariae, quas prophetico afflata spiritu elocuta est. Quid enim ait? Magnificat anima mea Dominum: et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo: quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae: ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes. Quod si animum accommodaveris universis eius verbis; non utique per dissidium negaveris eam fuisse Prophetissam quod Domini Spiritus in eam supervenerit et virtus Altissimi obumbraverit ei. "I went to the prophetess", he says, "and she conceived and bore a son." To see Mary in the prophetess whom Isaias approached by spiritual foreknowledge one need only recall the words Mary uttered when she was inspired by the spirit of prophecy: "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; because He has regarded the lowliness of His handmaid; for behold, henceforth all generation shall call me blessed." In fact, if you bear in mind all that she said, you can only agree that she was indeed the prophetess, since the spirit of Lord came upon her, and the power of the Most High overshadowed her.

In ipsum porro Vitalem persecutores omnia tormentorum genera ita exercuerunt, ut non esset in corpore eius sine vulnere locus, quae ipse constanter perferens, in oratione spiritum Deo reddidit; Agricolam vero, plurimis clavis cruci affigentes, interemerunt. Eorum translationi sanctus Ambrosius cum interesset, Martyris clavos, sanguinem triumphalem et crucis lignum se collegisse refert, ac sub sacris altaribus condidisse.
